Some of my favorite quotes - made either by friends, or sent to me by friends, or others I have found - some funny, some serious, but all have struck a chord in me somewhere. My very favorite quote these days: Some other favorites: A child is like an axe; even if it hurts you, you still carry it on your shoulder. How can there be so much difference between a day off and an off day? We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur. A mother is not a person to lean on but a person to make leaning unnecessary. I have a new philosophy. I'm only going to dread one day at a time. On Thanksgiving Day all over America, families sit down to dinner at the same moment--halftime. All serious daring starts from within. The internet is a great way to get on the net. Any mother could perform the jobs of several air-traffic controllers with ease. My mother was an authority on pigsties. "This is the worst-looking pigsty I have ever seen in my life and I want it cleaned up right now." The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart. One is not born a woman, one becomes one. Having a family is like having a bowling alley installed in your brain. Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast. If you want a job done fast, give it to a busy person. It's important to know the rules of dieting: Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and discover they were the big things. I cannot give you a formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure - which is: Try to please everybody. From there to here, and here to there, funny things are everywhere. Generosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need. You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others--something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it. My goal today is to get one TASK done..... Good advice is one of those insults that ought to be forgiven. The difference between good and great is just a little extra effort. When the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, it may be that they take better care of it there. Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of a joy you must have somebody to divide it with. Growing old is like being increasingly penalized for a crime you haven't committed. You know your children are growing up when they stop asking you where they came from and refuse to tell you where they're going. The careful application of terror is also a form of communication.
