Bill Lindsay
As owner/operator of Lindsay Laminates, Bill Lindsay has been a career woodworker since 1980. Although probably better known for the residential counter-tops he has built for many homes in the Pittsburg area, he is also a fine cabinetmaker. While the mainstay of his business for the last 20 years has been kitchen counter-tops, he has also built numerous custom furniture pieces over the years. One of his more unique pieces is a 7-foot tall wood sculpture, designed by Brett Fischer, for the Wichita Public Library. The sculpture, which currently stands in the Wichita Public Library, serves to acknowledge patrons for their monetary donations to the library.
Mr. Lindsay is now turning his career more in the directions of designing and building custom furniture. His current works, now on display, come from a belief that R.T.A. (ready to assemble) furniture need not be only flimsy boxes made of vinyl covered particle board, but may also be elegant, solid wood furniture that can be knocked down and shipped with little effort.
The desk shown below is a furniture piece inspired by the homes of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. This desk combines the natural look of stone and wood, and provides a maximum of functionality. It is made of cherry and soft maple.
The rocker shown below is made of walnut, ash and bloodwood. This rocker combines the past with the future. It has a semi-traditional look, but can also be completely disassembled, shipped flat, and arrive at its destination R.T.A. in just minutes. (Design participation by Brett Fischer).
