Al Letner
As an artist, I find most of my motivation and inspiration in the natural world. I have always thought of myself as an organic artist, utilizing natural color and pattern in my abstract work. My love of clay, pottery, and sculptural materials of all kinds carries over into my collage' and painting.
As a student, I was influenced by Bert Keeney, then sculpture and pottery professor at P.S.U. I have experimented with sculptural materials as varied as cast concrete and polystyrene; welded and steel and paper mache'; fiberglass and clay.
As a High School teacher, I offer my students an advanced level of experiences with these materials as well as more traditional media. I have exhibited my work locally and have received awards for sculpture and pottery. I have been teaching the High School art program at Carl Junction High School for the past 24 years as well as maintaining a studio at my home near Pittsburg.
