John Fitzgibbon
John Fitzgibbon was born and raised in the Midwest.
He paints the people and places he loves, for this reason there is great variety in his work. This variety also carries over in his choice of media. John works in oils, acrylics, and watercolors. He does this to avoid stagnation in his work. Another reason for this is so that he won't be pigeon holed into a particular style in a particular medium. The artist enjoys the freedom of working any way he chooses.
He won Best of show in a twelve-state competition sponsored by the University Women's Organization. Also, John has had two one-man showings in the Rotunda of the Oklahoma State Capitol. In 1986, he was commissioned to paint a portrait of the actor, Dennis Weaver. This painting now hangs in his California home.
John is a teacher as well as an artist. He has taught all ages in all mediums. John and his wife, Debbie, traveled to Ireland twice. While on their second trip, John conducted a watercolor workshop at the art center in Mullingar. This was so successful that he was given an open invitation to return. The artist was so taken with this beautiful country
that he painted a series of thirty watercolors depicting his memories of the Emerald Isle.
