GRUMPY BABY

Grumpy Baby is an 18 inch doll with hand carved swivel head, breast plate, hands and feet. Her eyes are painted and her skin is tinted to look more realistic, but the wood grain is allowed to show through. Her body is kid leather; her arms are moveable, and her legs seamed so she sits easily. Her wig is blond human hair. The dress she is wearing is a vintage dress with rose buds covering some small holes. She also wears a diaper, undershirt, diaper cover, and a slip edged in old lace, and hand knit booties. The old hand crocheted sun bonnet in the photograph has been adjusted to fit her. Grumpy is in the “the gallery” section of the Doll crafter & costuming (page 66) of May 2007 $400 $225

Mattie has carved basswood hands, feet and head. Her features are painted, but the natural color and grain of the wood is still visible. Her body is kid leather with fiber fill and pellet stuffing, and wig is mohair. The dress is made of peach taffeta, and trimmed with a vintage ivory lace collar and peplum. Silk edging, lace, and embroidery decorate the leg of mutton sleeves. Rose buds made from silk ribbon are embroidered down the front of the dress and on the ribbon embroidered on the skirt. The silk slip is trimmed and hand made tatting. Her shoes are kid leather with ribbon ties and pink rose bud trim. $400 $300
